A dream of an evening for reunited locally-based writers
Roger Tayler and Roy Eden had not met since they were school friends back in the sixties. Until, that is, a mutual friend noticed they lived in the same postal district and put them back in touch.
They started working together at Pam Barnard’s Crediton Arts Centre-based writing group and the result was “Dreams”, a book of their stories and poems inspired by the photographs of Roger’s wife, Gabi Krukenberg-Tayler. Her series of moving and disturbing images received great critical acclaim when first exhibited, and led to Gabi being awarded an Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society. The photographs are all double exposures and have a surreal, phantasmagorical quality; they are now available in book form for the first time. Although the images complement the writing, they have been interpreted in very different ways by the two writers.
“Dreams” was launched at an exhibition and reading at the Arts Centre last Friday. The readings were accompanied by the images projected on screen. One member of the audience was moved to write: “Magnificent! Your Dream launching was a theatrical event not to be missed! I was so impressed with the evocative poetry and prose your dreamy images inspired, beautifully read by Roger and Roy. Daphne Cartwright and Geoff Fox ”
The book of poems, prose and photographs is in a limited signed edition of 50, which was for sale at the launch and copies are going fast; but it is still available from TEK Publishing …
